This handsome chess set has been sculpted after W.W. Denslow’s original illustrations for 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, written by L Frank Baum. The chess pieces on the White side feature Dorothy as the Queen, the Cowardly Lion as the King, Scarecrow as the Bishops, Tin Woodman as the Knights, the Emerald City (with the Wizard of Oz peeking out the gates) as the Rooks, and the Munchkins as the Pawns.
The opposing side is represented by the ferocious Kalidah as the King, the Wicked Witch of the West as Queen, Hammerheads as Bishops, Wolves as Knights, Fighting Trees as Rooks, and the infamous Winged Monkeys as pawns.
